This years hosts had the additional challenge of finding appropriate venues following a 6.3 earthquake in Christchurch just 17 days before the awards were to take place, in fact the Awards night room at the Event Centre was changed the day before the event. Although guest instructors Peter & Alison (UK) cancelled their trip to NZ there were still some 350 in attendance. Pauline Mooney and her team did an amazing job under those circumstances and we can not speak any highly of her.
The number of nomination forms and voting forms received broke all previous records and we are grateful to all those who took part in this process.
There were a few changes to categories this year with both DJ categories dropped (as most socials are DJ'd by the groups instructor) and the Small Group category split into North & South (this was to reflect the support that small groups give to not only the clubs in their region but around their respective island. This year we also introduced a Choreographer of the Year this was not voted on but was calculated using the Top 5 lists submitted throughout 2010. The Top 30 were choreographers were identified and the Top 5 announced on the night.

This year saw the introduction of the Country Music Dance and splitting of
the Column awards into NZ and International categories. The Letter,
Article, Poem awards were merged and the Cover Photo Award removed as we
choose the cover photos each month and can on occasions put one or more
photos. This year also saw the BEST WESTERN WEAR with HATS as our
Awards Night Theme, this was a big success and we thank all those
attending for adhering to make it such a great night. A true step

This year saw some changes to the categories, namely splitting the One Day
Night Social category into North & South Islands as dancers may travel
between islands for a weekend but not for individual socials. We also
merged the Performance in Competitions into a single category and named
this trophy in honour of the previous editor Joanne Clifford-Marsh.
We also introduce the playing of the New Zealand National Anthem to the
start of proceedings.
